Watch out!

Time is of essence—an old proverb, but with a new trend! Sports watches for men can give you the ability to do just that even as you keep up with your active lifestyle. It doesn’t matter what sport or sports you like; if you are up cyclist, swimmer, skier, hiker, and so on, the right sports watch will keep you on track whatever you’re doing.

Menz_StyleWatches_pro_style.jpg“I am not a professional sports person but I still prefer to sport these watches because they are more robust and can withstand ordinary wear and tear much better as compared to other watches,” said Prasanna Thapa, a BBA third year student at Ace Institute of Management.

If you too are just a ‘weekend’ athlete, in that you like to exercise for fun and to stay in shape but you’re not really training for anything, sports watches for men come in basic models with relatively basic features, for a reasonable price. However, if you are a true athlete and you’re in training for something, you’ll want a watch that has features like a really accurate timer, memory, etc., so that you’ll pay a bit more—maybe quite a bit more—for that particular watch.

Hence, these watches come in different styles and types, and with different features, so the right sports watch for you is going to depend on what you need it for. They come with big dials and are designed and manufactured to meet the need of different sportsmen. For example, watches bought by runner will be different than those bought by divers. It is not necessary that only athletes can buy these. Even though they are manufactured for sportsmen, anyone and everyone can buy and use these. So if you too want to sport a sports watch, then read on—below are some of the features that can help you decide on what you want and what is not so necessary for you.

Water-Resistant

Sports watch with water-resistant casings is usually able to go up to 160 feet underwater. This is imperative if you are a triathlete or if you practice sports where you are bound to get wet, such as kayaking, canoeing, water skiing and fishing. But even if you practice a sport that does not involve getting in the water, the water-resistant feature will protect your sports watch from sweat, water spilling and rain. Water-resistant sports watches are not meant for being underwater for extended periods of time, such as with scuba diving. For scuba and other water sports including diving, choose a waterproof sport watch. It may cost more, but it can withstand being underwater on an on-going basis.

USB Cable
If you are practicing a sport where you want to track your progress, such as distance training and running, choose a sports watch that comes with a USB cable or wireless feature that allows you to transfer your workout times onto your computer. Not all sport watches with this feature are compatible with all computer systems, so make sure your sports watch is compatible with your computer’s operating system before you make a purchase.

Heart-Rate Strap
Some sports watches come with an attachable heart-rate strap that allows you to monitor your heart rate as you exercise. This is convenient if you are engaging in a sport to improve your cardiovascular health and also if you are seeking to reach your target heart rate to lose weight and gain endurance.

GPS
Sports watches with a GPS system are good for extreme sports that are practiced in remote areas, such as rock climbing and skiing. They will not only help you know where you are at all times, but it can also help others know where you are in case you need help. GPS is also useful for biking, as it can track how far you have travelled in a certain time.

The other features of these watches are backlight, stopwatch, alarm, date, etc. If budget is not a problem, one can go for the most expensive ones. They are expensive because they have all the features that a normal watch does not have. There are special discount available on these. Sometimes coaches give these to their trainees so that they can measure the time, distance, laps, etc. for themselves.

Sports watches can be bought from a normal watch shop around New Road or Durbarmarg or they can be bought online. Through online shopping you can buy one that is not available in your area. But it is generally suggested that these watches aren’t something you should really buy online, for the most part, without having a good one on one look at them first. Therefore, it’s a good idea to go to some sporting goods stores or high-end department stores to take a look at sports watches’ different models first-hand. Test several for price, fit, and features, and write down the names you like based upon those specifications.

The quality also should be checked so that money spent on it should be spent well. There are some brands that are cheap and of good quality, so if you can’t afford the expensive ones you can always buy one that is cheap and affordable. So what are you waiting for? If you too want to be the owner of one of these rugged watches, set yourself a budget and price limit then look for one with the features you need and just go ahead and purchase one.
