I always wanted a makeover for my room and when I saw the beautiful wall papers on TV shows; I often thought about decorating the walls of my room with the same. But the problem was I had no information about wallpapers what-so-ever as they aren’t very popular here in Nepal. I did not know where I could find them and how expensive or long lasting they were exactly. 

While scanning the various interior shops I found out that besides the obvious beauty wallpapers bring to a home, the practicality and durability is a definite bonus in adorning our walls. Vinyl wall papers are a wise economical choice as modern wall coverings, unlike a century ago, now last five times longer than paint, under normal usage conditions. The best thing about them? These wallpapers can retain their original beauty for at least 15 years.

From vibrant patterns to simple pastels, wallpaper comes in a wide variety of styles. Due to the availability of different style of wallpapers, choosing the right one for a particular room can be a daunting task.  In many cases you can hang wall coverings right over lightly textured walls. The key is in choosing a wall covering that will hide or disguise any of the texture that may show through. 

 Always measure the room before you begin the project. Allow yourself an extra roll in case of mistakes or miscalculations, and always use a level for accuracy. 

 If you are using wallpaper with a heavy design, start at the ceiling and work your way down. Make sure to allow your wallpaper to dry before installing kitchen items or appliances.

 Having multiple colors and patterns of wallpaper in an open space creates opulence and a rich color scheme.
 Try to pick designs that camouflage rather than reflect imperfections. Avoid plain or shiny backgrounds. Heavily embossed textures with an overprint, small busy prints, and expanded vinyl are good choices. However, the finishing up of your wallpapers will look better if your wall is smooth instead of textured.

 The job of putting them up can be extremely tricky and sticky and requires serious attention. So if it is the first time you are putting wallpapers in your room then get advice from a professional paper hanger.

 When decorating your living room with wallpapers, do not cover all of the walls with the same pattern or even with paper. Use wallpaper sparingly, or cover every square inch with a favorite pattern. Wallpaper one wall in your living room design as an accent in the room’s decor. Only wallpapering one wall creates a dramatic look and focal point for the room. 

 Wallpapers can be used to create a statement wall behind the bed, so for bedrooms use wallpapers with bold colors. The new wallpaper trend includes bold prints and metallic patterns. Use bold, floral print wallpapers as they add tons of romance to your bedroom.

 For high humidity areas, use fabric backed wall covering as they have the ability to withstand extended periods of shower moisture over the years and are least prone to exhibit seams splitting or seam loosening under high humidity conditions. 

With so many different wallpaper choices to consider, you will, without a doubt find the perfect one for your space at an affordable price but before applying the wallpaper be certain that you have selected the perfect one for you. This Tihar, be a little different and put those wallpapers up!
